Disrupted: Jesus’ Invitation Away from a Life That’s Too Safe

We want comfort. We love control. Having a sense of control makes us comfortable. We live in a time of history and place on earth where self-fulfilment is a high value. We have this sense that our life should be comfortable and that it is up to us to control our destiny and shape it to maximize our sense of personal pleasure. And yet we struggle to find happiness and inner peace. As we look at this section of the book of Acts, we are struck by how Jesus disrupts the status quo and surprises people with what he calls them to do. Following Jesus for the early disciples involved disruption…and joy. Following Jesus included risk, sacrifice, danger, confusing surprises, grand perspective shifts…it involved faith/trust/belief. What about us? What about you? Do you trust that Jesus’ invitation, even when he disrupts your controlled comforts, is leading you to life abundant? To deep joy? Are you prepared to be disrupted?
