An Undivided Heart

"serve [God] with an undivided heart and a willing mind.” - 1 Chron. 28:9 (GNB) Often we can get get distracted, our focus can drift, and our heart can become divided. God’s desire for us is to not just start but to finish well. He wants us to mature spiritually, walk in greater freedom and victory, and to know more of himself. May King David’s charge to Solomon echo to us. David’s charge and desire for Solomon was that he would serve God with an “undivided heart.” He states in 1 Chronicles 28:9 “And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole [undivided] heart and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought.” Solomon did encounter God and was greatly blessed but in the end "when Solomon was old his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not wholly [undivided] true to the Lord his God” (1 Kings 11:4). We want more of God in our lives and we want to see God move in our nation. We want to have undivided hearts. “We will never have time for prayer - we must make time" -Richard Foster
