"The celebration of Advent is possible only to those who are troubled in soul, who know themselves to be poor and imperfect, and who look forward to something greater to come." ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer
WHAT IS ADVENT
The word, “Advent” is derived from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming”. As we participate in the tradition of Advent we are preparing our hearts both to celebrate the first coming of Jesus, as a baby and for the ultimate fulfillment of God's plan when Jesus comes again, for the final time to make all things right.
ADVENT & ONLINE GATHERINGS
Advent is incorporated into our worship gatherings each year. In 2020 we are continuing the tradition of reflecting on the themes of hope, love, joy and peace by reading scripture, praying and lighting a candle. All of this will be done online by different people in our body.
ADVENT IN YOUR HOME
As well as engaging online, you are invited to take this meaningful tradition further. We invite you to have a place in your home for a candle (or 5), some greenery and a bible. You can read more about this in our Advent Guide. We want you to feel the warmth from a lit candle, to smell fresh evergreen, to enter into meaningful conversation and to join in prayer with one another. We are hoping this guide helps equip you in experiencing connection with God and His people. To fully engage in something like this, in a year like this, a level of intentionality is required from each one. I pray we lean into that intentionality so that we can experience a greater glimpse of the awe and wonder of Christ this year. This guide was made with individuals, couples, and families in mind. We invite you to print off the guide, open your Bible and dive in!
